Tomorrow is not promised.

This week we are going to meditate on this well-known proverb.

Proverbs 27:1 ‘Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.’

The future is always unknown, tomorrow is never promised but we live by saying phrases like ‘Do this tomorrow’‘ I’ve booked a holiday for next month.’ Today is important, what you do today is important, your life for Christ is essential because we should live mindfulness in the present and know that whatever we do right now should be proclaiming and glorifying God’s attributes.

‘Do not boast about tomorrow’

This phrase warns us against the overconfidence in the future. Boasting implies arrogance or assuming that one has control over what is going to happen. With this in thought, it cautions us to avoid making bold claims or relying too heavily on plans as though they are guaranteed. God knows why we were born, God knows our tomorrow move, and God has created us for a purpose. Isaiah 49:1 ‘Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.’

Do not boast about tomorrow since we do not know what tomorrow will bring to us; however think about how you are in the present. Ask yourself, if I was to go away from this Earths will my current circumstance defer me from going heaven. Every day is an opportunity to get your faith back on track – instead of dwelling what you can do tomorrow; DO IT NOW!

‘For you do not know what a day may bring’

This part of the verse emphasizes human limitations in predicting the future. Life is unpredictable and circumstances can change within a millisecond. This should remind us to be humble, and to acknowledge that only God knows what lies ahead. Trust in the present, do not dwell on the past and don’t linger on what the future holds.

Live in Christ, grow in faith, and focus on living faithfully and wisely in the present moment. Instead of boasting, we should trust in God’s sovereignty over our lives and future. Go this week with a heart full of gratitude.
