2 Peter 1:3-5

’His divine power has given us everything we need for a Godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.’

Following God does not mean finishing what he has called you to do. Not everyone who starts well will always finish well. In life, we face many obstacles and challenges that cause us to lose momentum. However, the word of God encourages us to finish strong in our faith.

This verse refers to Peters letter, written to believers scattered in various regions, an encouragement to press on towards the end. Within this verse we learn 4 key points; a reminder of God’s provision, the necessity of knowledge of God, living in God’s glory and goodness, and the promise of God’s faithfulness.

The power of God’s provision:

Peter reminds us that God’s divine power has already given us everything we need for a Godly life. It is easy to feel inadequate or underequipped when we face the trials of life, but we must understand that in Christ we have all the resources needed to overcome. God’s power is not something that we earn but is freely given through the grace of Jesus Christ.

The necessity of knowledge of God:

Peter connects this divine power to the knowledge of Him – knowing God is essential to tapping into his strength. As we grow in our understanding of who God is and what he has done, we become more aware of his power working in us. This knowledge of him fuels our determination to finish strong.

The call to live in Gods glory and goodness:

Peter speaks of God calling us by His glory and goodness. Our calling is not to live on our strength but to reflect the glory of God and goodness to the world around us. The beauty of this calling is that Gods goodness is a continual source of encouragement, and it provides a reason to press on – even if the journey feels tough.

The promise of God’s faithfulness:

God does not call us to something that he will not equip us for. We are not alone in this journey. Gods provision and faithfulness are constant ensuring that we have everything we need to endure and grow.

The three forces arrayed against you and they never up: the world, the flesh, and the devil. Make up your mind to complete the assignment God has given you and enjoy every minute of it.

Question:

How can you finish strong?

Answer:

His divine power has given us everything we need for a Godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
